Its estimated 5-10% of middle age men suffer from functionally low testosterone. This rate is higher in those with obesity or diabetes. Symptoms are often vague and include brain fog, sexual dysfunction, muscle loss, fatigue and loss of bone strength. Testosterone replacement with specific lifestyle changes can help!
For effective management of hormones such as Testosterone, HGH, and Clomid, it is crucial to consult experienced professionals - Board Certified Urologists.
By entrusting your hormone management to our expert team, you can expect personalized treatments and monitoring, enabling you to achieve optimal results.
Please reach us at info@leasidemedicalclinic.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Low testosterone is a medical condition and diagnosis is based on symptoms, lab tests and physical exam findings. The consultation with a Urologist is an OHIP covered service. A referral is required. You can ask your health care provider to visit HERE for more information on how to refer a patient.
We make it easy to refer - fax, eRerrral, email or online form! We ask that referrals be accompanied by a morning total testosterone, CBC and Thyroid function test at a minimum.
If you do not have a family doctor please contact us at testosterone@leasidevillagemedical.ca and we will have you meet with a family doctor with expertise in men's health to determine if a consult to a urologist is indicated.
After an OHIP covered consultation with a Urologist to review your initial bloodwork, perform a physical exam and review your symptoms there may be further bloodwork or diagnostic tests required. If determined to have functionally low testosterone, patients will have a discussion with the Urologist on the risks and benefits of appropriate treatment options. This includes pharmaceutical options of injections, gels, oral pills or nasal sprays in addition to important lifestyle habits.
Our team follows the Canadian Urology Association guidelines on testosterone monitoring. This includes getting your bloodwork and symptoms checked at 3 months, 6 months and 1 year after starting pharmaceutical treatment.
Older men with untreated low testosterone have increased risk of death, cardiovascular disease and overall disability. Men with low testosterone are more at risk of developing significant coronary artery disease. While men may notice the symptoms of low testosterone such as fatigue and sexual dysfunction, they may not yet appreciate yet the symptoms of their occult coronary artery disease.
There are ongoing studies examining whether those with cardiovascular disease will benefit from testosterone replacement. The US Society for Endocrinology 2021 guidelines for testosterone replacement state that doctors "are advised to consider cardiovascular risk in men before initiating testosterone treatment" and the Canadian Urological Association (CAU) guidelines state 'an individualized risk-benefit assessment is prudent." The Canadian Men's Health Guidelines on Testosterone replacement state that "testosterone replacement is appropriate for men with low testosterone who have or are at risk of cardiovascular disease."
If patients have cardiovascular risk factors they can be referred to our team of cardiologists for a cardiovascular health assessment and an individualized discussion. This is a fully OHIP covered service.
As many men know - male pattern hair loss is associated with increased levels of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) - a hormone derived from testosterone. DHT can contribute to the miniaturization of hair follicles in individuals who are genetically predisposed to male pattern baldness. It's important to note that not all individuals who undergo testosterone therapy will experience hair loss, as genetics and individual variations play a significant role. Some individuals may be more susceptible to DHT-induced hair loss, while others may not experience significant hair thinning or balding.
To mitigate the potential impact of DHT on hair loss, individuals undergoing testosterone therapy can explore various strategies. We offer non-OHIP consultations with board certified dermatologists to discuss hair loss prevention using advanced treatments such as platelet rich plasma micro-injections.
While testosterone replacement can improve metabolic, bone, sexual and mental health - it needs to be taken in conjunction with proper diet and exercise to reach maximum effectiveness. Our personally tailored, professionally monitored diet and exercise program for men on testosterone will ensure you have the support to reach your optimal health!
While OHIP covers seeing physicians for diagnosis and initial treatment of testosterone there are many aspects to improving one's health that are not OHIP covered. This includes individualized performance health management with a medical specialist, customized nutrition monitoring and personalized training sessions.
If you don't measure it - its hard to improve it! We measure a wide variety of scientifically based metrics to determine your baseline areas for improvement and build and guide your personalized program.
We regularly examine important aspects of your overall health including muscle strength, lean muscle mass, functional assessments and biochemical markers to determine how testosterone and your lifestyle changes are improving your overall health.
Our program was developed based on the most up to date medical evidence and is personalized to the individual. It includes:
OHIP covers visits with a medical doctor as appropriate for medical issues like low testosterone and cardiovascular health but does not cover visits with physicians for cosmetic purposes like hairloss, anti-aging consultations and comprehensive performance monitoring. In addition, OHIP does not cover important allied health such as dieticians, chiropractors, trainers or psychologists.
The cost of the program may be covered under one's personal insurance or health spending account program. It may be tax deductible as a medical expense. Please speak with your insurance provider and accountant for more information.
The cost of the 12 week platinum testosterone replacement program is $999.00.
